Recheck automatically when the code changes

A certificate is about the code as it was when the check ran. This setting lets Geometer notice when the code changes and start one ordinary check for you, so you can issue a new certificate when you are ready.

On this page

What it does#

In the Certificate room, the card Recheck automatically when the code changes has a switch, Off for this project by default. When you turn it on, it reads On for this project.

While Geometer is open, it looks about once a minute at projects that have the switch on. It starts a check only when all of these hold:

  • a certificate exists for the project;
  • the certificate's version of the code matches neither the project's current version nor its version without kept checks, so the code really changed;
  • no automatic recheck was already started for this version of the code;
  • no check is queued or running on any project, because Geometer runs one check at a time on one computer;
  • Docker is ready.

The check is the same one that Check this project starts, with the same time limit. Its first line says "Started automatically because the code changed since the certificate." The card, the board's follow step, the check page and Under the hood all say a check was started automatically. The card shows why it is waiting, for example for Docker or for another check, and "Last started automatically" with a link to that check.

What it does not do#

  • It never issues a certificate. A person does that. See Issue and share a certificate.
  • It runs only while Geometer is open (the app, or geo open).
  • It starts at most one recheck for each version of the code.
  • Reading never starts anything: geo status and the overview only read the record.
  • It uses your computer's Docker and processor.

Turn it on#

  1. Open Prove of a project that has an issued certificate.
  2. Switch Recheck automatically when the code changes on.
  3. Change a file in the project. Within a minute the card says that the code has changed and Geometer will look again.
  4. When the check finishes, issue a new certificate if you want one.
