Geometer documentation

Install Geometer, check an AI agent against your business rules, and learn every part of it. These pages describe the second public alpha, 0.1.0-alpha.2, and say where it stops.

Start with the quickstart Install Geometer

Get started

  • IntroductionWhat Geometer does, who it is for, and what the second public alpha is and is not.
  • Install GeometerRequirements, the Mac app, the terminal installer, a manual install, Linux notes, Docker set-up, upgrades, rollback and uninstall.
  • QuickstartOpen a project, check it, read the problem, replay it, check your fix, keep the check and run geo check.

Concepts

  • Checks, rules and problemsThe core ideas behind a check: project, agent, task, tool and action, rules, situations and faults, problems, replay and kept checks.
  • GuardHow Guard watches the calls your agents make, stops the ones that break your rules, holds large ones for approval and records every decision.
  • Autonomy levelsHow an action earns authority in five levels, what conditions must hold, and how grants, ceilings, step-downs and launch boards work.
  • Prove and certificatesHow Geometer keeps a record of what it checked, how a certificate reports it, and the three gauges that say what a certificate does and does not show.

The workspace

  • The workspaceA tour of the Geometer app and the browser workspace: the loop, then the Board, Guard, Prove, This computer, Under the hood, Help and the command bar.

Guides

  • Check your agentRun a check on a project, follow it, read the result, and know what it covers, including model-change and constraint-stability checks.
  • The agent checklistTen things a well-built agent enforces, why each matters, how builders usually get it, and how Geometer checks it and reports it.
  • Fix a problem and keep the checkReplay a problem, change your code, check the fix against the recorded run and nearby cases, and keep the check in your project for CI.
  • Use Geometer from your coding assistantAdd Geometer to Claude Code or Cursor, then ask your assistant to check your agent, fix what broke, check the fix and keep the check.
  • Put Geometer in front of your MCP serversWrap the MCP servers in your agent's configuration so Geometer sees their tools, with a preview first and one command to undo it.
  • Run kept checks in CIRun geo ci in continuous integration with the Docker image or the installer, with GitHub Actions examples, report files and exit codes.
  • Watch with Guard, then stop rule-breaking callsSet up Guard in watching mode, point an agent at it, read what it would have stopped, and decide whether to stop calls.
  • Approve or deny held callsReview a call Guard is holding and approve it once, approve it up to an amount for a while, or deny it with a reason. Add approvers and exceptions.
  • Grant an autonomy level and set a ceilingRead the autonomy map, try a limit on past calls, grant a level with a review date, set a ceiling and handle step-downs.
  • Issue and share a certificateDraft, preview, issue and share a certificate from a finished check, track whether it still applies, and make the dated audit export.
  • Recheck automatically when the code changesTurn on the opt-in setting that starts an ordinary check when your code changes after a certificate, and what it will and will not do.
  • Choose a modelUse no model, a free local model through Ollama, or your own hosted API, and see what each choice sends where.

Reference

  • Works withWhich agent frameworks, tool protocols and model APIs Geometer can check today, and what is missing for each.
  • Command referenceEvery command the geo command line lists, grouped as geo help --all groups them, with what each does, its important options and exit codes.

Privacy, limits and help

  • Privacy and securityNo account and no telemetry in the app. What uses the network, what the website’s forms collect, how the workspace protects itself and how to report a problem.
  • Verify records yourselfBuild the open verifier, check an evidence pack against an anchor and an assessment certificate against a key, and learn what a pass does and does not show.
  • Troubleshooting and FAQFixes for Docker, the unsigned app, sign-in links, projects with no tasks, wrapped MCP servers, frameworks and disk space, plus common questions.
  • Alpha limitsWhat the second public alpha does not do, what has and has not been tested, and where to find release notes and downloads.

Questions before you try it

Is it only for payments?

No. An action that changes something outside the conversation can fail the same way: money, records, in-game items or access.

Which agents it can check →

Can Geometer promise an agent will behave?

No tool can promise that. Geometer checks the rules you state, on the actions it is connected to, and says what it did not see.

What will a certificate mean?

One version and scope of an agent, with its problems and limits. A signature shows it is unchanged, not that everything was observed.
